Because I Loved Them First...
I didn’t sleep.
When I did it was in a whelping pen
Because I loved them first
I did all the health testing I could
I did pre and post whelping care
Because I loved them first
I miss life events, family gatherings, work, sleep and wouldn't have it any other way
My dogs come first that’s why all the questions
Because I loved them first
I cried over a still born I did CPR on for 20 min
I worried and cried and prayed over the weak and tiny ones fighting for them
I bottle fed and clean a million linens
Because I loved them first
I was the first to hold them
I was the first to trim their nails
I was first to give them a bath
I gave them confidence and encouragement
Because I loved them first
I will always take them back into my home
Because I loved them first
I worry and have sleepless nights even when they go to your home
Because I loved them first
When you call me with issues
Do not feel as though I do not care because remember

Wanted to follow up on the photo I just sent to you, thought you would enjoy seeing this Valentine Birthday Boy age 2. He is doing very well, and we are transitioning over to the Farmina food. Where we purchase his food, they are not going to carry the Acana brand any longer, as they are unsure if the quality might be compromised with this companies latest merger and are now selling Farmina, which I know you recommend, this store is owned by a veterinarian, so I feel that is an also a good endorsement. I want to also ask do you still continue to give a probiotic as well? We have always the probiotic you recommended from the day we brought him home.
I also need to say, we love this fur baby so much, and only hope we bring him as much joy as he does us. He is quite the talker and so very very smart. He’s so funny how he drags his blanket around to where he wants to lie down.
Cannot thank you enough for the thought and care you put into raising your canine family and feel fortunate we have a Springer of OZ pup.

iHi Sharon
I thought I’d update you on Lily’s progress. I tore my Achilles’ tendon twice last winter so we stopped most of her training in agility and rally. My husband has been working with field training. She loves going to the fields and flushing birds. While she was not bred for hunting she has all the right instincts.
This weekend she is in Michigan at a hunting training seminar with Ronnie Smith. This was my husbands present for Father’s Day. They've been using her as a demo dog. He has said great things about her and really likes her temperament. There are a mix of hunting dogs at the sessions- Brittany’s, labs, setters. All were bred for this activity. Lily has no problem keeping up with them and is due to her calm temperament, she is excelling. I always thought that if my husband wanted a “real hunting dog” we would need to get a field bred ESS. Lily is proving me wrong! Lily has proven to be the best dog we’ve ever owned and is incredibly versatile and game for any activity. She has yet to disappoint.
On a side note, my husband is visiting his grandparents while he is in Michigan. They have a strict “no dogs inside” policy. When he went to see them they fell in love and insisted Lily come in the house. She sat like a perfect lady at Grandpas feet. They were very thrilled to see her. The only issue is that all the other relatives are offended that she gets such treatment. . She really is an exceptional dog and we can’t thank you enough for her.
The picture attached is Lily with Ronnie Smith doing a demonstration.

Crosby/ Oscar from our Aug litter
Hello Sharon,
Thought I'd give you a quick update on Crosby. He's doing great all the way around. We've been to the vet and are all set up on shot schedules. He's just as lovable as when we picked him up - always wants to cuddle. His legs have grown quite long as you can see in the one picture and his coat and ears are filling out even more that they were early on. Loves the outdoors - still 98% housebroken. The other 2% is usually our fault. We take him to work every day and he's settled into that routine well. He loves to visit with all the people that come into the shop. We weren't sure how that was going to work out, but since he goes home at lunch and then has all evening to be outside if he wants, he seems okay with it. So all is well and things are progressing in the right direction. Obedience classes start in Garden City sometime in February. It's a 60 mile drive every week, but I think we are going to tackle that. Hoping the weather holds up. I'll keep you updated from time to time.
All our best,
Scott

Scarlett is amazing. Seriously. So sweet and calm, does not bark. Sleeps through thunderstorms at night. Stays with the kids in the yard (unless there are birds in the field, then all bets are off!). My 2 year old literally lays on her like a pillow to watch tv and hand feeds her her food one piece at a time. She loves to cuddle and lay around. She likes to go for runs with me in the neighborhood too.
She started sleeping in our bedroom without her crate around 6 months old and has done beautifully. She house trained immediately when we got her from you and has never had an accident since. We crate her when we go to work and that is about it...aside from chewing on the kids' toys when they leave them out she has no bad habits! And we get lots of compliments on her beautiful coat of fur...but I am mostly impressed with her personality. She's fantastic! :) |

Hi Sharon,
Just wanted to let you know that Auggie is still doing great. He's going to be 2 this summer and is definitely full grown now. Big but not too big. He has the prettiest ears. People always compliment those ears.
He continues to be a big ol lap dog. He loves to cuddle on the bed or couch. Follows me everywhere. Refuses to hang out outside unless the whole family is out there with him (then he likes to run around the yard and play with toys or with our other dog.)
He doesn't love walks (which we find weird) but does really like to be off leash when that's possible. (He's confident off leash but shy on the leash.)
He rides really well in the car, is sweet at the groomer's, and hasn't had any health problems. He barks really menacingly when the doorbell rings but then comes rushing to sit on my feet nervously waiting to see who is arriving. He sounds serious but we laugh at what a baby he actually is.
He's our buddy and is just slobbery and goofy and loving. He will do anything for a treat/snack. We adore him and are so thankful for him.
Here is a photo of him at the playground. He always settles in under the bench to keep an eye on our daughter from that spot while she plays. :)
Your latest litter of puppies is SO cute. Really wish we could get another puppy. Still several years away from that though I think.
Hope you are well,
Amanda

"Mischief" graduated from her Introduction to Agility class today! She can't decide which class to take next, we think she would be great at Scent Work,
Hello,
We got a puppy from you about a year and a half ago. My wife flew down to KC and met you to pick him up. We named him Gus (but we call him Goose), and he is amazing. We were quite nervous buying a dog without seeing him in advance, but we are so happy with him. He loves to cuddle (sometimes acts like a cat – sitting on the couch across our back shoulders) and is just a great addition to our family.
Thank you!!

Dear Dad (aka Drake),
Happy Father’s Day! I hope you’re having a good day. I am, but it sure is hot! I’m not real fond of hot days. My adopted mom and dad are watching the US Open on TV but they’re letting me run around and play with my toys. Mom took this picture of me today. I kept trying to get closer to give her kisses but I guess I was getting too close for a good picture so that’s why her hand is in there, too. I’ll get her to take a picture outside when it cools off so you can see my curls.
Love, Aston (aka Zechariah)

Hi Sharon,
I wanted to thank you again for the best Springer ever–my Springer-loving family are all planning to go up to Kansas for their next generation. Savvy is still the fastest puppy around–probably from running away from everything. She loves the water, even when all there is to jump in is the waterbowl.(Her very favorite adventure is floating down the river with us in her life vest.) There isn’t a single person in the world she doesn’t want to be best friends with, and she’s great with little kids. Thank you so much for my baby!

Hi Sharon,
Hope you had a great holiday and are enjoying the day off.
We thought of you as we drove through Waukeeny to get home last week after a Christmas with family in Central TX.
I thought you might like a little update on August for the new year!
August is still doing great. We feel pretty lucky to have such a perfect companion dog. We have decided though that he is really an old man reincarnated into a dog body. He has these whiskers on the sides of his cheeks that are like an old man’s and he has a fondness for throwing himself up on the couch and looking deeply in my eyes like he is trying to say something. If there is reincarnation then he was definitely a human before this life!
Here are some of the things we love about August.
1. He really hasn’t gotten that big. He’s 7 months but only about 30-35 pounds right now. It’s nice that his entire body hasn’t gotten as big as his paws made it seem like he would. We are very curious to see how much he will weigh when full grown. I am still assuming around 50 pounds by 18 months old? Maybe?
2. He loves one solid walk/day and then he’s obediant, restful, calm and happy. No crazy wild springer spaniel inside of him. I think he’s really a snoozy lap dog instead of a “sporting dog.”
3. He rode for 2 days down to TX and 2 days back, in our SUV, packed in the back with Talay without a complaint. He slept in a motel. He peed at reststops. And he never whined, chewed or complained.
4. He loved my extended family and my parent’s dog. He made lots of friends over Christmas and everyone wanted to keep him down in TX. He really enjoyed country walks. Some of the photos attached are of walks we took with him in Waco.
5. He is very very gentle and sweet with kids. We have zero worries about him with kids.
6. He likes to pretend he can’t jump up on the bed or couch and just puts his paws up expecting us to pull him up like a baby. But when he’s excited about something he is capable of hurling himself onto any furniture from several feet away. He’s a HUGE jumper when he feels like it. We laugh at how innocently he pretends to need help jumping onto the couch when we’ve seen him jump over the BACK of the couch even!
So all in all, he is doing fabulous. Has not had an accident in the house since late Sept. Chews some things a bit but at least doesn’t counter surf. Is beginning to have bad manners on the leash so we need to get a gentle walker type of harness. He loves to play with other dogs but is also content just laying by my feet while I work. Really he is incredibly flexible. The most flexible and easy going dog we’ve ever had.
Hope you had a great holiday and are enjoying the day off.
