We grew up in a house full of mastiffs , with our last one being Sampson when we had our first born son, in 1992. I never ever thought we could love any other breed .
We lost Sampson to bad hips, and I said NO more dogs until we are done having kids, I was so heartbroken for Sampson. When my little Sadie was, 9 my husband Peter came to my work and said I have a surprise for you.... I opened the truck door and low and behold there was a 5 year old liver and white field English Springier Spaniel named Penter. I looked at my husband and said " Ummm what kind of dog is this? And is he ours ?" Hence my love and obsession for the ESS breed. I didn't know much about the breed , but knew they were so loving and I soon wanted a playmate for Penter who was now 7. I was not on FB yet and began to surf the web for ESS breeders. I searched many and got a lot of call backs for available puppies. My daughter Sadie and I kept going back to the web site SpringersofOz , This black and white puppy named Jonah just broke our hearts , we were in love .I called and a nice lady named Sharon answered and we ended up talking for hours , she educated me on the ESS breed and I asked her about Jonah, who was a few months old at the time. She said he was a miracle baby and she wasn't sure if wanted to let him go . I finally convinced her to give our family a chance , and she and her son drove all the way here ( Kankakee, IL) from Kansas to check out if Jonah now Shooter, was a good fit for Penter and our family. That was the beginning of our beautiful friendship with Sharon and SpringersofOz. When Shooter turned 3 and Penter went to rainbow bridge it was time for a new ESS puppy, I called Sharon and we got Tommy, a liver, white and tan, bench now known as Pistol Toews aka Dr. Evil lol he is such a ham , so beautiful ,soft and full of spunk. He is very well known on my ESS groups as a comedian lol he thinks he is a deer or at least he runs and jumps like one .
The kids all now in college, and their friends all love the boys and they are treated like our children or even better lol.
I want to mention that when Shooter was 5, in 2014 , I came home from work to eat lunch with the boys, Shooter and Pistol and found Shooter had been hurt maybe by an intrude ,our house was full of blood, Shooter's eyes , ears, and nose were pouring out blood. My family was a wreck and didn't know what to do, it changed him to a different dog. Sharon was on the phone day and night with me, giving me encouragement and love for Shooter, it took a year and some meds but Shooter is back to 100% and I couldn't have survived all that we did without Sharon's love for Shooter and her dogs. I can tell you that I would never look elsewhere for a new puppy and that I love and trust Sharon and SpingerofOz 100%. She was there for our family in time of need and in times of joy. Not only did we get two amazing dogs, we gained a great friend in Sharon and SpringerofOz.

Scarlett is amazing. Seriously. So sweet and calm, does not bark. Sleeps through thunderstorms at night. Stays with the kids in the yard (unless there are birds in the field, then all bets are off!). My 2 year old literally lays on her like a pillow to watch tv and hand feeds her her food one piece at a time. She loves to cuddle and lay around. She likes to go for runs with me in the neighborhood too. She started sleeping in our bedroom without her crate around 6 months old and has done beautifully. She house trained immediately when we got her from you and has never had an accident since. We crate her when we go to work and that is about it...aside from chewing on the kids' toys when they leave them out she has no bad habits! And we get lots of compliments on her beautiful coat of fur...but I am mostly impressed with her personality. She's fantastic! :)
Hi Sharon,
Hope all is well with you and your pups.
As you know, today is Champ's 1st birthday and he is doing awesome, Noah and Tehya would be proud!
He is so healthy, happy and VERY much loved (unbelieveably smart and handsome too). Here are some recent pics of him, including him playing in the snow last May. Maggie and him are 2 peas in a pod!
Take care and thank you again!

Maggie and Champ too! :)
Hi Sharon! The puppies are beautiful! Can’t wait to see them when their little eyes are open. We’re looking forward to getting our puppy from this litter. Bentley, (Petey/Tehya’s litter, 11/10) and Turbo are excited about their new canine sibling!
You have the most gorgeous spaniels, and having had 5 English Springer Spaniels in the past 16 years, honestly, they are just the most beautiful my husband and I have seen! When we found you, we KNEW you had experience, knowledge, and most of all, the true love for this amazing breed!Peggy Hicks

Hello,
We got a puppy from you about a year and a half ago. My wife flew down to KC and met you to pick him up. We named him Gus (but we call him Goose), and he is amazing. We were quite nervous buying a dog without seeing him in advance, but we are so happy with him. He is loves to cuddle (sometimes acts like a cat – sitting on the couch across our back shoulders) and is just a great addition to our family.
Thank you!!

Boston:
Our Springer spaniel, Boston, is the friendliest dog I’ve ever encountered. He has the most out-going and sweet demeanor one could ask for in a pup. Not to mention, he is strikingly handsome!
Boston joined us after taking him home at 8 weeks, and has never left our side. He loves to play and show off, both with humans and other doggies. When we take him to the park, he runs to meet other dogs and seems to have no fear when encountering larger breeds. Yet, he is very gentle with smaller breeds (and children!).
With humans, he is eager to please and show others what a good boy he is for us. Boston loves to meet new people and seems to remember the old. One sniff and he’s sitting on their lap or taking them his favorite soccer ball for a game of catch. My husband loves that Boston can fetch, as he’s always wanted a dog to play Frisbee…and boy is Boston a leaper!! He doesn’t take his eye off that moving target until it’s safely in his mouth. This leads me to believe he’d be an amazing bird dog, as their breed should be.
Besides being friendly, Boston can also be extremely protective. He is sure to let strangers know he’s there to protect his family! This is great for us, as he helps me feel safe at night when I’m alone. He seems to take care of me when we’re on walks, rather than the other way around.
Wherever we take Boston, whether on a walk or to the pet store, he receives numerous compliments. He is a stunning dog and it’s hard to miss him! We often hear, “What a beautiful dog,” or, “He has the prettiest eyes.” Boston has light circles of tan around his brown eyes, set against his liver and white fur.
Beyond being friendly, protective, and striking, Boston is very, very smart. This is probably no surprise as Springers are known for their intelligence. However, he really surprised us to show his skills so young! Boston knew his name within the first few weeks at home, and only a short while later knew Sit and Speak. It took no time to teach him Come, Lay, Go Potty and so forth. The groomers have told us how smart Boston is as well. They noticed first he was scared of the clippers, but once he realized they don’t hurt he calmed right down. The groomer told me that most dogs will remain in the state they were when the grooming started. By calming down and changing his mood, Boston showed the groomers what a smart and good doggie he is!
We kennel Boston during the day while we are at work and he does wonderfully with the kennel. In fact, during the tornado storms the other day, he headed straight for his “safe space,” and knows when we leave the house it’s time to hop in.
I can’t say enough what a great addition he’s been to our family.
My name is Stan King. I live in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia. I am writing you to recommend Sharon Mathiesen as a breeder of English Springer Spaniels.
We purchased a pup from Sharon in the fall of 2007. Cassie arrived in excellent health and has been our companion from the day she arrived. Her temperament is quite docile, she is loving, and great with children. This is all indicative of the care and love she received prior to arriving at our home. She is a very active dog and loves to run. She loves the water and playing with the cats.
Sharon continues to stays in touch with us and keeps us informed of any pertinent alerts related to keeping the dog healthy and safe. She communicated with us during the entire transaction. Cassie arrived at the Baltimore airport in a safe fashion and with proper accommodations for traveling. I would definitely recommend her as a breeder and assure you of a seamless purchase of a companion that you will cherish.
Good luck with your purchase.

We live about 30-45 minutes south of Sharon’s house, so when I called her in response to an ad I found on the computer, she offered to bring her two remaining pups to our house to see if we got along.
Both of the Springer pups she brought to us were gorgeous–healthy and happy– I wanted to get both, but I was told we could only keep one. I picked Riley (he was called Jackson at the time), We’ve had him for almost a year and a half and he’s been a tremendous companion and a great source of joy for my family. His picture is on Sharon’s website… sorry I don’t have any recent pictures (camera needs repair).
When my family has gone on vacation, Sharon has kept Riley for us (twice) and he was so happy to stay with her family. Sharon has a great little house in KS, with a big room–kind of like a sunroom–next to her living room for her dogs. Its connected to the living room and opens out into the back yard where the dogs and puppies can play. She has two of the “wire” kind of crates she can put her dogs in when they have muddy feet or need a “time out” when they play too hard. This is the main room the puppies stay in until they’re housebroken. Riley was supposed to sleep in one of the crates at night while he was staying there, but he cried (he’s spoiled rotten here) so she let him sleep in her bedroom with her and her dogs. All the dogs adore Sharon and her family.

Sharon Mathiesen asked me to write to you about my purchase of one of her puppies over the internet. I was very nervous, but found that the world has changed enough that there was much more availability that way. So I jumped in. Working with Sharon was terrific. First, our puppy is a beautiful dog, with a great personality, and just as she described on the web. Second, we shipped her in the kennel to San Francisco. Sharon sent her well-equipped with food, and checked in with me until she knew that the pup had arrived safely. A friend of ours bought our pup’s sister at the same time and can’t speak highly enough about Sharon, her communication, the puppies themselves, and the care she took in shipping them. I’ve just had a hip replacement, or I’d be looking for our second one from Sharon. Good luck! If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to email me.

Sharon, Just wanted you to know how happy I am with my puppy Anthony that I got from you in April 2011. The first time we spoke I was a little nervous but you reassured me with your knowledge and understanding for a first time puppy owner like me. Anthony was everything you said he would be and even more. He is very smart and very good with people especially children. He was easy to house train and now barks when he wants to go out side to do his business. People tell me all the time that he so beautiful and that he has such a calm disposition. He has turned out to be great companion and a very rewarding experience for me. I would also like to thank you for being there for support and answering any questions that I have had about him since I got him. Your run a good and honest dog breeding service and I would recommend you anytime to somebody new that was interested in getting one of your puppies. Thank you, Charles Bergeron |
